Kent Fitness Cross Country League, Swanley Park – Sunday 10 November 2019


The second race in the Kent Fitness Cross-country League was held at Swanley Park last Sunday.  Medway & Maidstone AC followed up their excellent results at the first race with their best results for 14 years, winning the combined men and women’s team race.  The men’s team was 2nd and women’s team 6th. This leaves the combined team in 3rd overall and men 2nd overall.  An amazing 560 runners finished the muddy 5 mile cross-country course.  The club had its best turn out ever in this league, with 15 men and 6 women.

The women’s team was led home by Emily Hale in a superb 2nd place in her debut in this league.  She was followed by Taryne McPherson, with another good result in 8th and Bernadette Harrop in 43rd, also scoring the important W45 place, Vanessa Vander, who was running her debut in this league, after running her debut in the Kent League the day before, was 63rd, followed by Catherine Rodwell 103rd and Kat Ford 177th.

The first man home from the club was Chris Rampling in 7th place, followed by Neill Wright in 8th (2nd M40), Daniel St Martin 17th, Adam Featherstone 29th, Sean Rodwell 39th (50 places up on last year), Alun Rodgers 40th (and 2nd M50), Gareth Williams 47th (M50), Ben Hughes 57th, Martin Taylor 88th, Darren Wright 93rd, Reegan Archer 102nd, Gary Hughes 203rd, Adrian Donnelly 224th (M50), Ivon Whitmore 389th (M65), and Nigel Read 518th (M65)  

In the Junior race, Ciara Harrop was fourth in the Under 17 category.
