YDL U13/U15 Lewes – Saturday 15th July

M&M under 13 & 15’s headed down to Lewes for the second time in a month hoping to replicate their win in the YDL that they achieved 4 weeks ago. This was always going to be a stretch with a number of athletes missing from the team, and so it proved. The team finished in second place and this secured a second in the league after only winning promotion 12 months ago.

The biggest highlight of the day was undoubtedly the return of Caoimhe Mallon to the team, who earlier this year suffered a bad leg injury and was confined to a wheel chair for two months. Whilst not yet fit enough to resume her hurdling, she did compete in the long jump, setting a new personal best distance of 4.02m good enough for second in the competition and then going on to win the B string shot with another personal best of 6.71m. It was brilliant to see her compete again as she has been sorely missed by the team this year.

The other star of the under 13 team was Abigail Royden who managed to set person bests in all three events that she competed in. Abigail normally does middle distance racing and her time of 4:14 was good enough for 2nd in the 1200m and then she went on to post 23.4 sec in the 150m and then 13.26m in the javelin.

There were good performances in the under 15’s as well with Katie Rothery setting personal bests in both the sprint hurdles and long jump, Abigail Walters setting her new best of 44.5 sec in the 300m and Sandra Obiefuna setting her new personal best of 4.80m in the long jump.
