Larkfied 10K Road Race (Incl. Kent Road Race Championships) – Sunday 16th September 2018

The ever popular Larkfield 10 Km road race was particularly important this year as it was not only included as part of the Kent Grand Prix Road Race Series, but was also used as the Kent County Short Course Road Championships. The first two runners are automatically selected to represent to County at the Inter-counties Road Race in November.

Medway & Maidstone AC had a very strong presence and claimed many of the awards in the men’s race. The overall winner was Ben Tyler with a PB of 33.19, closely followed by Tom Collins (33.23), both from Medway & Maidstone AC. This gave the 2 runners County Gold and Silver individual places and with Mark Wilkins finishing in 7th (34.23), the club were clear winners of the overall Kent Road Race Team Gold. Success continued with Richard Tomlinson, finishing in 9th place (35.06) who took the Over 50s individual County Gold.

In addition to the above 4 top ten finishers, Medway & Maidstone AC also had numerous well placed runners, including 4 more in the top 20. Chris Rampling had great run to finish 12th with a massive PB (35.39). He was followed in 13th by Under 17 Ben Hughes (35.54), Neill Wright in 14th, taking County Over – 40s Silver with a big PB of 36.01 and Daniel McGlynn (Under 17) in his first 10 Km race (20th in 36.26). Further good club runs were achieved by Daniel St Martin in his first race for the club (PB, 36.40 in 25th), Sean Rodwell, (PB, 39.36 in 52nd), Bob Fursey M55 (64th 40.44, PB as an M55) and Stephen McGlynn (69th 41.23).

Apart from the obvious success in the County Road Race Championships, the above results will make a very positive improvement to the club’s position in the Kent Road Race Grand Prix Series. The last race in this series takes place on the 7th October with the Tonbridge half-marathon.
