Following the completion of the last race in the Kent Grand Prix Road Race Series, the overall results have now been released.
The Grand Prix Road Race Series proved a great success for Medway & Maidstone AC this season, with much more involvement and the club’s best results for over 10 years.
The men’s team were 4th out of 36 competing teams; no mean feat considering the club’s other track & field and cross-country commitments. A shortage of senior distance women runners meant the club didn’t fare so well in the women’s league, but with a recent increase in women middle/long distance runners it is hoped to improve in this competition next season.
Individually the club had several notable successes with Lee McMeekin, who was overall Individual Champion as well as the M40 Champion and Chris Rampling in second place overall. With 554 runners competing this season, having the top 2 runners is an outstanding result. Justin Lane was also in for a top place, but got injured half way through the season. Although he only completed in 4 races he was still 4th in the M40 category. Neill Wright, with just 2 races, was 13th in the M40 category.
The club also had some great results in the Kent Short Road Championships (10 Km) with a team Gold (Ben Tyler, Tom Collins and Mark Wilkins), with Tyler and Collins taking individual Gold and Silver respectively. Neill Wright took Silver in the M40 category and Richard Tomlinson took Gold in the M50 category.
In the Kent long course championships (1/2 marathon) McMeekin and Lane took M40 gold and silver respectively. Chris Rampling was 3rd in the Kent Marathon Championships.
The 2019 Series gets going with the Canterbury 10 mile race on January 27th. The presentations for the 2018 winners will take place after the race.
