Medway & Maidstone AC Men’s team had a superb result in the Southern Cross-country Relay Championships at Wormwood Scrubs finishing in 5th place out of 34 teams from across the South of England. This was particularly impressive as during the week the team lost their fastest team member on current form, going down with a bad cold.
The relay race is for teams of four with each runner scheduled to complete a 5 Km grassy course. However, the course was assessed at being nearer 4.4 km.
Tewelde Menges ran the first leg in 13.49, the 6th fastest of all the 155 competing athletes. He was followed by Marley Godden 14:19, Alun Rodgers 16.21 and finally Tom Collins 14:21.
The next cross-country race is the Kent League next Saturday at Tonbridge where the men’s team should have another good turn out.
