Kent Schools Cross Country Championships, Dover – Saturday 20th January, 2018

The 2018 Kent Schools Cross Country Championships took place on Saturday 20th January at the Duke of York’s School in Dover. With the continuous rain throughout the day not keeping the runners away, saw some top performances from M&M athletes competing for their local districts. Many thanks to all the effort put in by the KSAA organisers and those volunteering.

The Year 7 girls were first to go and saw some great performances. Abigail Royden competing for Medway had a battle for 3rd place but came away securing the bronze medal. This was followed by  Grace O’ Connell (36th) making up the 6 to score team and coming 2nd in the team placings for Medway. Abbe Clarke (40th) Ruby Tower (50th) and Lily Crossley (59th) followed close behind. There were 105 finishers.

The Year 7 boys saw an outstanding run by Alistair Shelley competing for Maidstone and taking first place. This was followed by Kaz Gogol (14th) securing the gold medal team for Maidstone. Jack Morris (44th), Jacob Graham (51st) and Daniel Hardy (90th). There were 108 finishers.

The Junior girls (Year 8 and 9) saw Maidstone taking 2nd team. A fantastic run by Isobel Shelley in 4th meant automatic selection for the English Schools. Some equally strong runs followed with Anna Palmer (8th), Rachel Anderson (16th), Martha Tatnell (20th), Annabel Young (23rd), Fern Curran (34th), Emma Ryan (41st), Sarah Mitchell (64th) and Katie Stringer (77th). There were 93 finishers.

The Junior boys (Year 8 and 9) saw a strong run from Cameron Featherstone, Finn Rogers (40th), Callum Featherstone (65th) and Kai Prendergast (96th). There were 109 finishers.

The M&M  Intermediate girls were led in by a strong run from Charlotte Young in 8th place and Alexandria Baker-Jones in 10th. This was followed by Millie Morris (30th), Kerry Dewberry (32nd) and Georgia Williams (56th). There were 64 finishers.

The Intermediate boys saw Maidstone take 2nd team. M&M athletes saw Ben Hughes in a strong 8th place followed by Hamish Reilly in 14th. Further placings were Luke Stringer (21st) Daniel McGlynn (24th), Reece Perkins (34th), Alexander Donnelly (36th),  George Wallace (40th), Evan Tinsley (45th), Max Eldridge (47th), Finlay Macdonald (49th), George Dadd (60th). There were 88 finishers.

The Senior boys saw 36 runners finish. M&M athletes were Quinn Austin (15th) Luke Reeves (24th), Carl Eldred (34th) and Luke Batchelor (36th).
