There was medal success for M&M athletes competing at the recent South of England Championships at the Lee Valley Stadium. Held over 2 weekends the event gives a chance for athletes to test their training in advance of the outdoor season.
Alex Marshall was the star of the weekend for M&M. Competing in these championships for the first time, he set a new club record at 200m for the U20 mens age group of 22.44 in his heat, followed that with a 22.46 semi-final and then went even faster at 22.33 to grab a bronze medal. In the senior women’s age group, Darcey Kuypers ran a 26.17 heat and a 26.15 final to also win a bronze medal after making the semi final of the 60m the day before with a best time of 7.86.
Also at 200m Michael Watson (senior man) ran a 23.18 heat and a 23.39 semi-final, Harry Osborne (U17M) ran a 23.47 heat and a 23.81 semi-final, Nathan Isaac (U20M) ran a 23.55 heat and 23.91 semi-final, Zara Edeleanu (U17W) ran a 28.19 heat and 28.02 semi-final, Michelle Yalekhue (U15G) ran a 28.26 heat (PB) and 28.85 semi-final and Lucy Hope (U20W) ran a 27.69 heat.
Ben Blake and Ben Townend set new pb’s at 400m in their heats of the U17M’s 400m with times of 53.6 and 53.8 respectively, with Ben Blake also running a semi-final is 54.12.
There was more medal success in the field with Mayong Tabe taking silver in the U17W’s long jump with a leap of 5.59m after making the semis of the 60m the day before with a best time of 8.23. Abi Walters was 7th in the U17W’s high jump with a best clearance of 1.50m and Jack Royden was 4th in the U20M’s shot putt with a best throw of 13.35m, which was also a personal best.”
