Medway and Maidstone AC competed at the second Southern Athletic League meeting in Eton on Saturday 15th June. Despite late injuries and unavailability, the team finished in 3rd place on the day. There were some terrific all-round performances in what were difficult conditions of wind and rain at times.
Andre Wright had a double sprint victory winning the 100m A 10.79s and 200m A 21.86s. Joshua Aboagye 3rd B 100m 11.48s and Nathan Isaac 2nd B 200m 22.36s. U20 Cheyne West took victory in the 400m Hurdles 54.99s achieving the men’s best performance of the day. Tom Collins winning the B race. Cheyne was also 2nd in the 400m A 49.22s and Joe Burton 2nd B 51.17s. Tom Collins 2nd in the 2000m steeplechase A 6:48.01 and Jacques Cunningham-Marsh winning the B 7:01.12. The 3000m saw a double victory for M45 Anthony Webb and Daniel St Martin winning A 9:15.45 and B 9:19.50 respectively. Anthony was also 2nd B 1500m 4:29.11 with Jack Bradley 3rd A 4:24.80 in his first ever time over the distance. U17 Theo Ronchetti had a good race for 4th A in the 800m 2:04.23.
Field event points were harder to come by but Harry Blake produced a fantastic club record throw of 50.69m for 2nd place in the Hammer with M55 Stuart Earl 4th B. Double victories for Harry Wickers and Andre Wright in the Long Jump with Harry achieving a 6.23m pb followed by 3rd A High Jump 1.70m with Harry Blake in B another of his 5 field events.
The day saw Ellie Turner achieve 2 strong performances with a sprint double win in the 100m A 11.71s and 200m A 24.26s. Ellie also achieving ladies’ best performance of the day. U17 newcomer to the SAL, Eve Morgan, taking 3rd in the 100m B 13.71s, 3rd A 400mH 70.76s and High Jump 4th1.33m. Lucy Hope was 1st in the 400m A 59.58s and Erin Hughes 2nd 400m B 61.66s. Abigail Hawkes 4th A 800m 2:20.78 and 3rd B 1500m 5:33.60. Abigail Royden 3rd A 1500m 4.53. Ella Webb ran a great PB and Club record for 2nd in the 5000m A 18:15.78.
With a depleted team in the throws and jumps athletes covered what they could to earn points. Abi Walters 5th A in the Long Jump 42nd 5th A Shot. Cat Rodwell covered many of the events on the field with a 5th A triple jump, 5th A Hammer, 5th B Shot, 5th B Discus and 4th A Javelin. Zara Edeleanu 5th B Discus.
The Relays were the highlight of the day with spectators getting behind the teams. The Men’s 4x100m team of Rory Kuypers, Cheyne West, Nathan Isaac and Andre Wright produced a club record time of 42.34s to take the victory. Not to be left out, the women’s team of , Abigail Walters, Lucy Hope, Erin Hughes and Ellie Turner also setting a club record with a time of 49.85s for 2nd place. The Mixed 4x 400m A relay saw a thrilling victory for the team of Joe Burton, Lucy Hope, Ellie Turner and Andre Wright achieving another club record of 3.37.62s. The Mixed 4 x 400m B team of Joshua Aboagye, Erin Hughes, Abigail Hawkes and Rory Kuypers finished the day with a strong race to finish 2nd B 3.57.26s.
