Saving the best for last is a saying we hear often and so it proved last weekend for Medway and Maidstone 400m runner Conor Murphy. In the last of four weekends of indoor action at the Lee Valley track, he won the South of England under-20 400m in a new indoor personal best of 49.59, following a 51.14 heat and 50.74 semi-final. After a breakthrough year in 2019 when he set a new outdoor pb of 48.80, Murphy has started 2020 where he left off last year. “Running 3 races like that in 5 hours is always tough, but that is where the training kicks in. I can’t wait for the outdoor season now”. The time ranks Murphy 5th in the UK this winter.

Returning from injury, Andre Wright nearly made it 2 titles for M&M athletes as he finished second in the senior men’s 200m in 21.99 following a 22.19 semi final and 22.27 heat.  Also recording a 6.96s in the semi-final in the 60m.  Another to make a final over the weekend was Lucy Hope who had an excellent championships finishing 5th in the senior women’s 200m in 26.41 after qualifying with a time of 26.30. Also in action were Harry Osborne who ran a new pb of 7.32 in the under-20 men’s 60m, Logan Reekie who set a new pb of 5.78m in the under-20 men’s long jump and Zara Edelaneau, who just missed her personal best in the under-20 women’s 60m, with 8.37 and then recorded 28.00 in the 200.
