YDL U17/U20, Mile End – Sunday 26th May 2019

On Sunday 26th May, the second round of the YDL South Division 2C, saw the Under 17 and Under 20 Ladies & Men athletes of Medway & Maidstone A.C. travel to Mile End, London. The club were hoping to repeat their impressive victory from the first round and they did just that.  The victory was another dominating performance from start to finish, winning the meeting by another margin exceeding 300 points and almost twice the point tally of their nearest rivals.

The U20W had excellent sprint performances from Lucy Hope, placing first in the ‘A’ 100m in a PB 12.80s and third in the 200m 26.48s. Elle Wastell ran a 100m PB for 2nd ‘B’ 13.43s and then taking to the field for 2nd ‘B’ discus 14.87m. An outstanding performance in the field events witnessed Grace Adeleye place first in 4 events; Hammer 39.44m, discus 24.40m, shot put 9.05m  and high jump 1.33m. Zara Edeleanu also 1st in the Javelin 14.97. Lucy Maunders also had an  excellent day placing second in the 400m 65.98s and third in the ‘B’ 200m 28.16s. Liberty Kerswill was 1st  400m ‘B’ 67.15s. Another strong run for Emily Featherstone in the 400mh for 1st 67.65s then shortening to the 100mh 17.30s (wind assisted PB). Emily then went on to take 3rd in a competitive long jump 4.95m.  The 4x100m team of Wastell, Hope, Featherstone and Maunders were 2nd 52.01 and the 4x400m team of Rouse, Kerswill, Maunders and Hope 1st 4.37.59.

The U20M saw a win in the 100m ‘A’ for Nathan Isaac 11.45s and 2nd ‘B’ in the 200m 23.79s. Joel Ogunfemi 2nd 100m ‘B’ 11.71s. Rory Kuypers was 1st ‘A’ 200m 23.59s. Lorcan Rodgers was 3rd ‘A’ 55.10s with Regan Archer 3rd ‘B’.  Lorcan also 1st in the s/c ‘B’  and 2nd ‘B’ in the triple jump. Alex Donnelly won the 1500m with a PB 4.28.27, placed 2nd in the 800m 2.06.73 and winning the ‘B’ hammer with Reece Perkins taking 1st ‘A’ hammer 43.61m and 1st ‘B’ in the shot 8.03m. Ben Blake 1st ‘A’ shot and PB 10.43m and the same position in the discus and PB 27.29m. Jude Gordon 1st ‘B’ 1500m 4.33.63 and 1st ‘A’ in the 3000m. Reegan Archer won the ‘B’ string 800m 2.07.00, third in the 400m, and 1st ‘B’ long jump with James Grogan 3rd ‘A’ 5.27m and 1st A in the 2000m s/c 7.37.33. Lorcan Rodgers had an active day placing third in the ‘A’ string 400m, second in the triple jump and first in the ‘B’ string 2k steeplechase. The 4x100m team of Rodgers, Kuypers, Isaac and Blake 1st in 48.05 and in the 4x400m Perkins, Archer, Donnelly and Rodgers in 1st place.

The U17 men continued their excellent. Johnny Berry opened the competition with 2nd in the long jump, recording 5.33m for a new outdoor PB. Finn Rodgers was 2nd in the A string 400m hurdles in 65.84s whilst Jamie Pearce won the B string in 70.53s, taking over 3 seconds off of his PB. Ethan Gear won the A string 1500m in 4:30.58 having competed in an aquathlon 24 hours earlier. Johnny Berry was 2nd in the A string high jump recording a season’s best of 1.80m and Zach Smith was 4th in the A string 100m in 12.21s. Harry Blake was 2nd in the A string discus throwing 29.61m. Finn Rodgers was 3rd in the A string 400m finishing strongly in 56.20s. He was supported by Jamie Pearce who was 2nd in the B string in 62.26s. Finn Rodgers won the A string 100m hurdles stopping the clock in a new PB of 16.48s, Harry Blake was 2nd in the A string shot put, increasing his PB to 10.20m. Zach Smith also recorded a new PB when winning the A string triple jump with 10.63m. In the 200m, Zach Smith was 6th in the A string recording 25.79s whilst Johhny Berry recording a new PB when winning the B string in 25.25s. The day was rounded off nicely with the 4x100m squad of Jamie Pearce, Harry Blake, Johnny Berry getting the baton round to Zach Smith who finished very strongly to win by 0.1s in 49.67s.

The U17 women started and finished the day with wins. Charlotte de la Porte Godden and Olivia Harrison won both the A & B string of the first event of the day, both dominating the discus. The two of them went on to win the Shot Putt with a PB for Oliva 9.64m and then 4x100m relay, Charlotte finished 3rd in the discus with a PB 14.37m and Olivia set a new PB 13.59s in the 80m hurdles on her way to winning the B string. The A string hurdles was won by Katie Rothery, who set a personal best time of 13.34s, she also finished 3rd in the 300m hurdles, 2nd in the triple jump and helped the 4x300m team to victory in the final race of the day. There were more great performances in the 800m where Billie Rouse ran 2:23.23 to win the A string and was brilliantly supported by Jess Bakker who came second in the B string with a new PB of 2:57.58. Jess went on to win the B string 300m. Sophie Shaw enjoyed a great day with a personal best in the 100m of 14.2 before strong runs in the 200m, 4x100m & 4x300m. M&Ms dominance was rounded off at the end of the day when Sophie, Katie and Erin were joined by Abi Walters to win the 4x300m.
