There was medal success for M&M athletes at last weekends South of England senior and under 20 indoor track and field championships.
Competing in the senior women’s 200m, Darcey Kuypers won a silver with a new indoor pb and club record of 25.22 following a 25.50 heat and a 25.25 semi-final. It was a busy weekend for Darcey, who also competed in the 60m on the previous day, making the semi-final this time and recording a new pb and club record of 7.68.
In the under 20 age category the medal success continued. Ellie Turner raced to a 7.58 60m clocking in the final of the 60m for a well deserved silver medal, setting a new pb and club record and ranking her third in the UK at this point of the season. Another silver success came in the under 20 women’s high jump where 2 weeks after setting her new indoor pb of 1.76m, Ashleigh West cleared 1.70m. Her 1.76m set at the England multi-events championships puts her firmly on the number 1 spot in the UK so far in 2019.
Not to be outdone the U20 men also came up with some super performances, the highlight of which was Alex Marshall’s 200m silver in 22.14, following a 22.43 heat, currently ranking him 5th in the UK. It was doubly special for Alex as he finished third last year and an upgrade from bronze to silver augers well for this summer. Although not in the medals there were nevertheless two more fine performances from the U20 men. Conor Murphy missed a bronze medal on the line by 0.80 of a second in the 400m recording a new indoor personal best of 50.22 after a 50.26 heat and Josh Oshunrinde finished 6th in the 60m with a new pb of 6.97.
There were also early season runs for Mayong Tabe in the 60m (8.04), Zara Edeleanu in the 200m (27.70), Harry Osborne in the 200m (23.53) and George Blake in the 400m”.
