England U15s/U17s Championships at Bedford, 25th/26th August 2018

There was medal success for M&M long jumper Mayong Tabe at the last weekend’s England U15s/U17s Championships at Bedford. After setting a new pb and club record of 5.86m the previous weekend in a Southern Athletics Fixture moving her up to 7th on the UK U17 rankings, Mayong put together a great series culminating in a jump of 5.71m in windy conditions to take the bronze medal.

On the track M&M’s Conor Murphy finished 3rd in his heat of the U17 men’s 400m running 50.85 and then followed that up with a great run in the final, finishing with a time of 51.04 to place 5th in the wet and windy conditions on the Sunday. U17 Joshua Oshurinde finished 4th in the 100m final in a wind assisted 10.80. Also on the track Michael Uzozie finished 4th in his heat of the U15 boys 300m with a time of 37.51 while Ben Blake also went out in the heats of the U17 men’s 400m hurdles after problems with his stride pattern. Charlotte Young, a first year U17, made the final of the 800m and also achieving a PB in the heat in a time of 2.16.51. U15 Michelle Yalekhue also performed well finishing in 8th with a PB in the Triple Jump (10.35m).

There was also success in the throws for U15 athletes Zara Obamakinwa in the Shot (11.09m) and Gypsy Nash in the Hammer (44.03m) both picking up bronze medals. There was also a strong performance and PB for Harry Blake finishing 4th in the Hammer (46.11m).
