Medway & Maidstone held a successful Open on Sunday 15th July at an extremely hot and sunny Medway Park, Gillingham
Similar to the weather, a hotly contested 100m taking place over 7 heats and two rounds. The first round saw Enfield & Haringey athlete Omari Barton-Ellington take 1st in 10.84s, Frederick Afrifa from Italy, 2nd in 10.89s with M&M athlete, Andre Wright 11.22s. However, the second round saw Wright take the win in 10.99s also taking 1st in the 200m in 21.82s with Afrifa 2nd in 21.84s. Reece Dimech also achieved a PB 11.44s, who along with Wright, had both competed for the Club in the SAL the day before.
There were plenty of PBs achieved by M&M athletes throughout the day. In the U17M James Butcher 11.98 and Sam Amoh 11.99. In the U13Bs Dylan Purton 12.95, Owen Rees 13.99, Mitchell Kerr 14.62, Stanley Cooke 14.70, Jake Foster 14.75, and Daniel Culver 14.75. In the 200m PBs for U17M William Heathcote 25.17, Johnny Berry 25.47 and Ethan Burling 26.53. U13Bs Owen Rees 28.49, Ethan Rollings 31.25, Stanley Cook 32.44 and Daniel Shoyoye 33.88. In the 300m U15B Finn Rogers ran a PB in 42.04.
In the 800m PBs for U15 Callum Featherstone 2.21.40 and U13 Ethan Rolling 2.41.64. In the mile SM Tom Collins ran a PB in 4.42.68 after competing the day before over 3000m and steeplechase. There were also PBs for V50 Barry Royden 5.09.38, U15B Cameron Featherstone 5.71.61, U13B Alistair Shelley 5.20.16, SM Sean Rodwell 5.28.52 and V50 Alun Rogers 5.40.88.
In the Long Jump PBs for U15B Kai Prendergast 4.61m, U13Bs Mitchell Kerr 3.89m, Owen Rees 3.97m and Ethan Rollings 3.82m. In the Javelin PBs for SM Sean Rodwell 31.70m and the High Jump a great PB for U17M Johnny Berry 1.85m.
There was a PB for U13 Owen Rees in the Discus 12.81m
For the female M&M athletes there were PBs for U17W Gbemi Kasumu 14.23, U5G Daisy Spencer 14.49, Ciara Harrop 16.07 and U13G Abigail Royden in 15.0. In the U17W 200m Gbemi Kasumi 29.36, U15 Billie Rouse 28.48, Oliva Sands 33.21 and Ciara Harrop 34.73.
The 300m saw U17W, Abigail Walters, achieve a PB 42.89.
In the 800 U15G Billie Rouse took 7 seconds of her time to run a PB of 2.26.70. PBs were achieved by U13G Abbe Clarke 2.44.22 and U11 Elizabeth Fry 2.48.68. There was also a PB in the mile for U13G Abigail Royden 5.55.45.
The Long Jump saw PBs for U15Gs Annaleise Kerswill 3.72m and Mia Franklin 3.63m.
In the Discus PBs for U15 Alexandra Hannam in 15.30m and in the Javelin, Abigail Royden, 15.81m.
There were some fantastic results for the young athletes in the Run, Jump and Throw. There was over 40 youngsters experiencing the competition atmosphere with many taking part for the first time.
There was a battle for the line in the 75m for Year 5/6 boys Joel Shakespeare 11.03 and Louie Inochie 11.47 PB. Yr 3 Bukunmi Edun run a PB 11.87 and a PB for Year 4 girl Jasmine Chamberlain in 13.08.
Similar to the 75m there was another battle to the end in the 600m for U11s Year 5 M&M athletes Kainen Bekir in 1.55.88 and Theo Ronchetti in 1.55.93 with U13G Molly Marsh 2nd girl in 2.12.48 all achieving PBs. There was also a BIG PB for Year 4 girl Tofumi Edun in 2.15.10. Also strong runs and PBs for Year 4 boys, Max Bristow 2.09.59 and Lennon Frankin 2.12.46 and for Year 3 boy, Nathan Lougheed 2.25.94. At the younger end of the field great runs for Year 1 athletes, Eve Wilkins 2.53.69 and David Shoyoye in 2.58.62.
Josh Rollings achieved a PB in the Long Jump of 3.17m and for Rose Crossley 2.88m. Some great results across the age groups.
