SCVAC Kent Division, Tonbridge – Friday 25th May 2018

The SCVAC Kent division match took place on Friday 25th May at Tonbridge. The Medway & Maidstone team was badly hit by injuries on the night, and it would take a superhuman effort in order to put the team back in the frame for staying up in the top division next season. On the track, Rob Sibley (M60-14.3) and Martyn Corbishley (M50- 13.9) came 2nd and 3rd in the 100m, with great  backup from Scott Craddock and John Foster (13.7) in M35 event. The 800m saw 4th for Jack Crossley (2:13) in the A race and 3rd place for Justin Lane (2:15) in the M35 B race and with Alun Rodgers running 2:41 to finish 5th in the M50 race.

In the high jump, Alun Rodgers took part in his first ever high jump competition to finish 4th in the M50 category (1.25m) with Marco Ronchetti (1.40m) doing likewise in the M35. Stuart Earl threw superbly to get 2nd in the M50 shot (9.54m) and javelin (35.07m) with Martyn Corbishley also gaining 2nd in the M35 javelin (31.24m) after dropping down an age group to compete. Will Burling continued his great run of form in the throws to finish 3rd in the M60 shot (8.71m) and middle distance runner-turned-shot putter Nigel Rumsey gained more valuable points in the M35 event.

The relay team of John Foster, Rob Sibley, Marco Ronchetti and Jack Crossley just edged Dartford by the smallest of margins to finish the 4 x 100m in 4th place (52.7″) in the last race of the night.

Overall the team finished 3rd on the night , 1 point ahead of 4th placed Dartford, a result which meant they now go up to 4th place in the league.
