“National success for M&M athletes
After a very promising indoor season to date where he has set personal bests and club records at 60m and 200m, Alex Marshall competed at this weekends England Age Group Championships in Sheffield. Racing over 200m, Alex was second in his U20 men’s heat in a another new personal best and club record time of 22.25, but he then managed to go even faster in his semi-final, lowering his best time to 22.10 finishing second and guaranteeing a place in the final. In the final Alex finished 4th, just missing out on the bronze medal, only to find that he had been DQ’d for putting a foot on the line around the final bend. Alex will compete again in 3 weeks at the Kent Indoor Championships, his final indoor competition, before turning his attention to the outdoors.
Also competing in Sheffield was Mayong Tabe. Mayong has also had a very good indoor season to date, winning a silver medal at the SEAA champs in January and currently ranked 6th in the UK. The U17 long jumper had an excellent first jump of 5.57m, just behind her best this winter and was in second place at the end of the first round. Sadly she could not improve on that jump, but still finished in an excellent 6th place.”
