YDL U13s/U15s, Lewes – Saturday 18th May 2018

On Saturday, the Medway & Maidstone U13 & U15 teams took a weakened team down to Lewes for the second YDL meeting of the year. Despite this, the athletes who went still put in a strong performance to finish fourth overall.

In the U13 girls’ team, Princess Asemota competed for the first time, finishing second in both the 75m (11.0s) & 150m (22.1s) sprints before going on to win the long jump B string with a jump of 3.87m. Abigail Royden finished second in the A string with a personal best distance of 3.95m. Abigail then went on to set another personal best in the javelin with a throw of 15.30m, gaining third overall. Sarah Watmough was another standout performer setting pb in both the sprint hurdles (14.0) and high jump (1.30m). Lily Crossley ran her best ever time in the 1200m with a time of 4:29.20s before then setting another pb in the shot. The only other under 13 girl in the team on the day was Olivia Laws who knocked over a second off her best ever 150m (22.3s) time and then went on to compete in the relay, the 75m (11.6s) and the high jump. Laws, Royden, Watmough and Asemota then went on to contest the 4x100m relay finishing 4th in 59.0s.

There were equally some great performances in the U15 girls. Gypsy Nash won both the discus (28.48m) and Hammer (41.57m). Michelle Yalekhue (13.70m) and Katie Rothery (14.60m) both ran pbs in the 100m. This was matched by Keira Rose running a pb in the 200m A string in a time of 26.8 sec. Alex Hannam set pb in both the javelin (16.66m) and shot and Sarah Mitchell’s time of 47.9s in the 300m was well over a second quicker than she had ever run it before. Erin Hughes ran a pb time of 2:26.7s in the 800m before helping Rachel Anderson, Katie Rothery & Keira Rose grab second place in the 4x300m. Annabel Young ran a pb for 2nd place B string in 5.32.17s.

In the U13 boys, Oscar Mas ran 15.3s in the 100m and 2:56.1s in the 800m whilst Charlie Rouse ran 2:56.0 in the 800m B string and jumped 3.63m in the long jump B string, both making their competitive debuts. In the 100m, Jack Morris finished 5th in the A string and Cameron Isaac finished 4th in the B string, Jack finished 6th in the 200m A string and Jake Foster was 5th in the B string. Robert Wright ran a PB of 2:43.2 when finishing 4th in the 800m A string and Noah Ryan ran a PB of 2:50.2 when finishing 4th in the non-scoring race. Alistair Shelley won the 1500m A string race in 4:59.7 for a PB run and Kaz Gogol won the B string race in a PB of 5:07.2; both boys contesting the lead for the first 2 laps. In the 75m hurdles, Stanley Cook (A string) was 4th in 16.7s (PB) and Jake Foster (B string) was 4th in 17.4s (PB). Daniel Culver (A string) was 6th, jumping 3.67m (PB) in the long jump and threw 18.65m (PB) to finish 2nd in the A string javelin, Cameron Isaac was 4th in the B string javelin. Alistair Shelley 6th in the A string and Cameron Isaac 4th in the B string again jumped 1.15m to equal their high jump PBs. In the shot put, Jack Morris was 4th in the A string with 5.64m and Daniel Culver was 3rd in the B string with 5.37m.The 4x100m quartet of Cameron Isaac, Jake Foster, Stanley Cook and Charlie Rouse finished 3rd in 60.1s.

The U15 boys were severely depleted, losing a further athlete on the day due to an injury sustained in training but performed well despite this setback and the need to re-jig some events to maximise the points available. Michael Uzozie was 3rd in the A string 100m, 2nd in the A string 200m (same time as the winner) and 1st in the A string 300m. Kieran Isaac was 4th in the B string 100m, 2nd in the A string shot put and 3rd in the A string hammer with 16.56m on his competitive debut in this event. Luke Nash was 2nd in the B string 200m (same time as the winner) and 2nd in the B string 300m. Kai Prendergast ran a PB of 2:23.1 in the B string 800m and finished 5th in both the A string 80m hurdles and high jump. Joe Hollands was 2nd in the A string 1500m running a PB of 4:43.1, threw  a PB of 11.17m to finish 5th in the A string javelin and was 5th in the A string discus. Callum Featherstone jumped a PB of 3.72m in the B string long jump to finish 6th, ran a PB of 2:23.0 in the A string 800m to finish 5th and threw a PB of 11.97 in the B string discus to finish 4th. Cameron Featherstone was 5th in the B string shot put with a PB of 5.16m, 4th in the B string javelin and 2nd in the B string 1500m. Finn Rodgers was 2nd in the B string 80m hurdles, 6th in the A string long jump and 5th in the B string high jump. The 4x100m quartet of Finn Rodgers, Kieran Isaac, Luke Nash and Michael Uzozie finished 2nd in a race which saw 1st to 6th split by 3.4 seconds. The 4x300m quartet of Kai Prendergast, Joe Hollands, Callum Featherstone and Luke Nash finished 2nd, just 0.2 seconds ahead of the third placed squad.
