Track & Field Kent Championships, Ashford, 12/13 May 2018

There were a number of medal winning performances for Medway & Maidstone AC athletes contesting the Track & Field Kent Championships at Ashford over the weekend.

In the senior men there were 5 medals won. With gold for Lewis Heffernan in the 400m hurdles (56.60) and Sonny Nash in the Javelin (58.49m). Silver for Tom Collins in the 5000m (15.31.33) and Andrejs Safars in the hammer (30.83m). A bronze for Reece Dimech in the 200m (22.75).

In the U20s, Alex Marshall was honoured with 2 deserving silver medals. With a time of 10.84 in the 100m and in a highly contested 200m (with 3 athletes in the top 12 national rankings), Alex finished in 2nd with a new pb of 21.82 which is also a new club record. George Blake picked up a bronze in the pole vault clearing 3.20m.

In the U17s, Ben Blake took gold in a flawless 400m hurdles race and a new pb of 56.65. In the 400m, Conor Murphy took silver in a gutsy run resulting in a new pb of 50.34. Reece Perkins silver in the hammer with a throw of 36.06m and William Heathcote, silver in the triple jump, with a pb jump of 10.68m.

In the U15, Michael Uzozie took gold in the 300m 39.07 and silver in the 200m in 24.17. Success also for Harry Blake with gold in the hammer with a magnificent pb throw of 41.14m and then bronze in the discus 28.56m. Toby Hughes in the javelin 36.95m and Kieran Isaac in the triple jump with a pb jump 9.80m, both taking bronze.

In the SW Jessica Blake took a well-deserved bronze medal in the hammer with a throw of 34.46m.

In the U20s two great results for Ellie Turner back in form after injury, clocking 24.95 in the 200m to take gold returning on the Sunday and adding another in the 100m with a new legal pb of 11.94. A successfully weekend also for Ashleigh West with gold in the 100m hurdles (15.62) and then silver in the high jump recording 1.70m. Elle Wastell took silver in the 400m hurdles recording a new pb of 65.11 and a bronze for Grace Adeleye in the hammer with a pb 38.62m.

In the U17s, Mayong Tabe won gold in the Long Jump in 5.68m. Katherine Donnelly took silver in the hammer with a throw of 31.49m. Millie Morris taking silver in the 3000m walk and Emily Featherstone, silver 300m hurdles with a time of 48.91. Abigail Walters took bronze in the high jump in 1.50m and also a bronze for Zara Edeleanu in the triple jump 9.65m.

In the U15s, Katie Stringer won gold in the 3000m walk in 17.35.34. Gypsy Nash also taking gold in the discus with a pb throw of 28.85m. This was followed by a silver in the hammer and pb of 41.69m with Summer Salter taking bronze in a pb of 36.32m. Michelle Yalekhue also with a bronze in the triple jump and pb of 9.83m.

There were also many other great results for Medway & Maidstone athletes that made finals, narrowly missing medals but recording PBs in the process; proving that a successful summer is on the cards!
