SAL, Finsbury Park – 8th July 2017

Medway and Maidstone Southern Athletic Division 2 East team finished fourth. There 4th fixture at Finsbury Park, North London on Saturday. In a closely fought match, lack of numbers again took its toll.

The ladies pulled together covering as many of the events as possible. Even though we ended up in 4th place we picked up a valuable 150 points.

There were 2nd places for Shauna McFarlane in the 100m (A) 12.83 and Lucy Hope (B) 13.82 and 3rd for Shauna in the 200m (A) 26.74 and 2nd Lucy (B) 26.99. Lucy also 3rd in the 400 (A) 67.37. Stephanie Hearn had another busy day with 2nd in the 5000m (A) 21.05.89, 2nd in the 1500m Steeple Chase (A) 6.48.19 and 3rd in the 1500m 5.38.33. Claire Wilkins returning to competing after a baby break, with 2nd in the 5000m (B) 25.40.31 and 3rd in the 800 3.25.22. Women 50 vet, Mo Fazakerley, covered more than her fair share of events on the track. With 4th in the 800m (A) 3.02.12, 2nd in the 1500m (B) 6.19.28 and 2nd in the 1500 (B) steeple chase 7.15.30.

On the field Mo was also 2nd in the Javelin (A) close to her PB in 18.04m and 3rd for Sarah Kenyon (B) with a PB of 12.13m. In the Hammer 2nd for Jess Blake (A) with a PB 27.25m and 2nd for Wendy Blake (B) 17.76m. In the Discus 4th for Kat Ford (A) 14.71m and 3rd for Wendy Blake (B) 13.95. The Shot 4th for Shauna McFarlane (A) and 3rd Kat Ford (B) 4.97m.

In the triple jump 4th for Jess Blake (A) 7.38m and 3rd for Mo Fazakerley (B) 6.85m. With a 2nd place and PB in the Long Jump for Shauna McFarlane (A) in 4.50m and a 1st place and PB for Lucy Hope (B) in 4.43m.

With tired legs the ladies managed to cover both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays for 4th place.

U17 Regan Archer won a tactical 800m race with a time of 1.59.52 with Andrejs Safars also winning the “B” in 2.01.26 just 10 min after a 2nd place in “A” 400M hurdles. Adam Thompson was 2nd in “A” 400M in 51.47 with Andrejs also 2nd in “B” race.

The middle distance events saw 2nd place for Twelde Menges in “A” 3000M with a 9.00.73 min PB with Mark Wilkins winning the “B”race. Twelde also winning 3000 s/chase in 10.04 min with Mark 3rd “B”. Tom Collins had a seasons best to finish 2nd “A” in the 1500m with Marley Godden same position in “B” race.

With no club sprinters making the match it was left to George Blake, George Clements and Adam Thompson to stand in and have very good runs against very good opposition.

Field events saw George Blake win the Pole Vault with a 3m 40 PB. U17brother Ben 3rd in “B” with very credible 2m 95. Same two gaming 2nd places in both High Jump “A” and “B”.
Elder brother, Will, competing in all four throws also gaining PBs.

The day finished with victory for a very tired squad of Adam Thompson, Regan Archer, Andrejs Safars and George Clements in the 4×400 relay.

All to play for in the last match to secure our place in this league for next year.
